JORDAN Flynn is still eyeing a title fight this year, despite controversially being awarded a draw at the weekend.

The Cowley boxer went up against Kane Baker in a rematch on Saturday, with the bout an English super featherweight title eliminator.

Flynn knocked Baker down in the second round, and was widely regarded as the fight’s winner.

However, a 94-94 draw on points was announced by referee Chris Dean, although it does mean Flynn extends his unbeaten run to 10 bouts since his first professional fight in December 2019.

“I won the fight so comfortably, everyone in boxing and beyond said that I won,” said Flynn.

“I beat him so much more than the last fight and I was 10 times better than last time.

“You get this in sport though and there’s nothing you can do. At least I’m still undefeated.

“These things happen. I can try and appeal but I’m not going to set my heart on it.

“You can’t really do anything to change it, but I know in my head that I performed well and that in the long run, it’ll do me good.”

Many inside Birmingham’s Utilita Arena felt Flynn was a worthy winner, including promoter Eddie Hearn.

He told iFL TV: “I thought Kane Baker was so lucky to get the draw. It was a great fight, but I thought Jordan Flynn won by three or four rounds.”

Undeterred by the result, a title fight remains the target for Flynn.

He said: “I’m sure I’ll still be fighting for a title this year, whether it’s the English one or a Commonwealth one.

“The plan is still to get a title and keep climbing. It was a good learning fight for me.

“I want to have two more fights before the end of the year, and one of them will hopefully be a title fight.”

Flynn knocked Baker down late in the second round, and was himself deduced a point in the 10th.

He said: “I had him hurt in the second round. It was the last minute and the bell saved him.

“I got better from there and the ninth round was probably my best, but Kane was given it.

“I had a point taken off in the 10th round for holding, but you’re going to get things like that late on, and Kane didn’t get a point removed for punching the back of my head.

“At this level, Kane is as good as it gets, until you move up to European level.”

The fight was a first 10-round bout for Flynn, who said: “Physically, it felt easy and 10 rounds was very comfortable. I was still fresh at the end of 10 rounds and I could easily have done 12 rounds.”
