JORDAN Flynn will sport Oxford United’s colours as he looks to go one step closer to an English title.

The Cowley boxer will face Kane Baker in a rematch next month, with the August 19 fight an English super featherweight title eliminator.

Flynn won 77-75 on points against Baker at the O2 in London back in April, with that bout on the undercard for Anthony Joshua’s comeback fight against the United States’ Jermaine Franklin.

Flynn made a big impression on the undercard, with his fight against Baker receiving plaudits from the boxing world.

He told this newspaper: “Everyone loved the last fight, including Eddie Hearn.

“It’s been talked about for a while, even after the last fight. He thinks he’s better so let’s give him a proper beating this time.

“It’s a win-win for him because he’s already lost, but I need to beat him convincingly and put a good job on him.

“This one’s going to be an English title eliminator so once I beat him, I’ll be fighting for an English title.

“Now it’s about really starting to climb and become a big name in this division.”

Next month’s fight will see Flynn take on Baker in the latter’s home city, with the bout taking place at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.

“I’m really looking forward to shutting them up and beating him in front of his own people,” said Flynn.

“Last time on the AJ undercard, it was early but now it’ll be a full crowd.

“There’ll be hundreds going from Oxford, they always turn up so I’m expecting a good turnout.

“I’ve been doing things with Oxford United and I’ll proudly wear the colours.

“My management have been speaking with them and it makes sense.

“I’m doing the boxing and they’re doing the football, so it’s a good little team.”

The April bout marked the first time Flynn had fought an eight-rounder, while next month, he will face a first 10-round bout.

He said: “Ten rounds is a long time in there but at the end of eight rounds last time, he was knackered.

“Last time, I had three weeks to get ready but now we’ve got a lot of time.

“I’ve had a lot of time with my coaches and been in camp for the last four or five weeks, so I’ve been doing longer sparring rounds.

“I could’ve done 10 rounds last time, I was ready for that.”

Boasting a 9-0 record since his first professional fight in December 2019, Flynn has the chance to extend his unbeaten run into double figures.

He said: “I take each fight at a time and keep going, but 10 in a row sounds nice.”
