OXFORD Hawks survived a late spell with nine men to earn a 1-1 draw at Team Bath.

Jack Biggs struck a penalty flick before the visitors hung on for a useful point which extended their cushion over the bottom three in Division 1 South of the EHL.

A cagey game finally came to life five minutes before the break.

What looked a fairly innocuous attack was not dealt with and Hugh Page finished from close range.

Within seven minutes of the restart Hawks levelled when Ed Tristem was fouled in the circle by John Jackson.

The Ireland international was yellow-carded and Biggs converted the flick.

Hawks then made life difficult for themselves as Kit Cutter and then Tom Miotto were sin-binned in the final ten minutes.

Bath’s numerical advantage was reduced when they also had a yellow card late on as the game petered out.

Oxford OBU lost ground in their Premier Division 2 West title bid.

They lost 1-0 at Staines in the South League, to slip four points behind leaders Surbiton, who visit this weekend.

Witney’s five-game winning streak came to an end as they lost 2-1 at a clinical Oxford Hawks 2nd in MBBO Regional Division 1.

There was little to choose between the sides early on, but James Lawton-Smith pounced on a defensive mistake to open the scoring.

Witney pushed for an equaliser, but another error was punished, this time by Thom Sobey.

Tim Chilvers pulled a goal back late on.

Oxford Hawks slipped to third in the Investec Women’s Conference West with a 2-1 defeat at Basingstoke.

The home goalkeeper was in excellent form to repel Hawks’ bright start, before Basingstoke scored from a penalty corner against the run of play.

An injury to one of the home players and then a hailstorm delayed the game, but Basingstoke doubled their lead seconds after the restart.

Hawks’ display was finally rewarded with a goal from Bex Oakes, but they could not find a way to draw level.

Witney climbed to second in Division 1 of the South Clubs’ Women’s League with a 7-1 thrashing of East Grinstead 2nd.

Katie Jayne, Hayley Dobson and Millie Hartwell struck before the break.

Abi Flory scored twice in a second half, which also included goals from Sunny Wallis and Katie Oliver.

Kim Warman hit the only goal of Oxford’s victory at Eastbourne in Division 2.

It took them 11 points clear of their hosts at the top.
