MICK Conmy was awarded the county's outstanding contribution to community football honour.

Known as 'Mr Hinksey Park', Conmy was presented with his prize at the Oxfordshire FA awards, held at the Kassam Stadium.

Conmy has been coach, caterer, fundraiser, administrator and more during his time at the club, doubled the size of the club during his time as secretary and secured funding for a new clubhouse and drainage system.

He was one of 12 winners on the night as volunteers, coaches, referees, groundsmen, leagues and clubs came together to pay tribute to the efforts of local football heroes dedicated to developing grassroots football across the county.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and England midfielder Steve Hodge was guest speaker on the night, regaling attendees with his recollections of England's 1986 World Cup campaign in Mexico, including his role in the infamous 'Hand of God' goal scored against England by Diego Maradona.

Chalgrove Cavaliers won the FA Charter Standard development club of the year for the second year running.

They were commended for continuing to improve the links between its youth and adult sections and for new initiatives such as a walking football team for players over 50 and the introduction of football taster sessions for girls.

Banbury Irish scooped the FA Charter Standard club of the year award, while the FA Charter Standard community club of the year was awarded to Chinnor Youth.

Chadlington's Barry Mulhearn was commended for the 'countless hours he spends looking after the Centenary Field and the football pitches' as he picked up the groundsman of the year accolade.

Brandon Haden, 18, from Bodicote was awarded Oxfordshire FA Doug Watts young referee of the year, having earned himself an FA Cup appointment and a double promotion from level seven to level five in one season.
