Oxford swimmer Rosie Bancroft insists she is fully focused on making her mark in Rio de Janeiro after putting in a strong performance at this year’s National Paralympic Day.

Bancroft competed for Great Britain against a Rest of the World team at London’s Aquatics Centre.

She turned in an impressive performance, clocking 4mins 48.18secs to top the S10 400m category and post the second-fastest time in her S9-13 race.

The 20-year-old is also in action at this week’s British Summer Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, which began on Tuesday, finishing third S10 in the 100m freestyle final and seventh overall in the S6-12 field.

And the City of Oxford star says she will now looks to keep the momentum going all the way to Rio 2016.

“The 400m is always tough, but it was a good swim and I think I did alright and I’m pretty happy with the race,” she said.

“Rio is the main goal and it’s a really exciting time for me. It’s hard as well, there’s no doubt about that, but it’s definitely exciting.”

National Paralympic Day is an annual event designed to help continue the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics.

Bancroft added: “It’s great because we have a chance to show off what para swimming is all about and exactly what we can do.

“It is really nerve-wracking when you are up there on those blocks – I’m not going to lie, but it’s amazing and a great experience.”
