Still no sign of Squidge!!

Alison my midwife came over today. She checked blood pressure and that was fine which was great. We then went upstairs and she checked baby's heartbeat and tried to give me a stretch and sweep to get things going. But no joy!! she couldn't reach so I was no way near to having this baby!! I was gutted!!

She left and I had my friends all texting and calling asking how it went and I broke down in tears! I really was hoping that she was going to tell me I was 3cm dilated or something!

She phoned the hospital and got me booked in to go in to be induced for the following Wednesday 21st. I would have to go in the night before to have the gel and then my waters will be broke the next day if nothing was happening on its own.

Time to enjoy a few days with bump before squidge arrives.

Thursday afternoon I got a call from the delivery suite at the John Radcliffe. They had some appointments free to go in earlier. I could either go in on the Friday to be induced on the Saturday or go in Saturday to be induced on Sunday.

I knew that mum and dad had plans to go out on the Saturday for a friends 50th birthday meal if I wasn't in labour so I decided to be induced on the Sunday. They deserved a night out as they hadn't been out for ages as we were all waiting and hoping that squidge would arrive.

Saturday arrived and I got myself organised. Everyone that knows me knows that I am too organised for my own good! Whenever we go out I need to know what time, where we are going, who is going and what all the plans are! So maybe being induced was the best plan for me.

Three o clock! Time to head off. I was starting to feel really nervous now! This was the last time I was going to be in this house without my child? What was the labour going to be like? Will everything go as I planned? I didn't tell too many people as i didn't want people keep asking if Squidge had arrived.

We arrived at the hospital and went straight to ward 5. The midwives were really friendly and took me to my room. It was lovely! I had a little room with a great view and a tv! What more did I want!

A midwife called Val came in and had a chat to me telling me what was going to happen and checked my blood pressure and then I was put on a monitor for an hour. Everything was fine. Then at 5.45 the gel was inserted. Right here we go I thought!!

At six mum had to go so I arranged for my friend Joanne to come and keep me company and be with me if anything happens.

Joanne and me just sat waiting and chatting. About 8.30 I started getting cramps as if I needed to go to the loo but nothing really strong. At 9pm I sent Jo home and said that I would contact her if anything happened. I needed to get some sleep as the tomorrow was going to be long and hard!

At 10.30pm I started getting period like cramps. They were getting really strong as I was lying in bed and I was starting to panic a little bit. I was on my own!! was this the start? Should I call mum and let her know she has to come up now?. By 1am the pain had died down and I finally could relax so I settled down for the night.

The next morning I had my midwife come round at 6am to check blood pressure and to ask if anything was happening. I felt fine!! all pains and twinges had gone! I was then put on the monitor again for another hour. Breakfast came round at eight and then I just chilled out waiting for mum to come up. 9am another midwife came in and checked baby's heartbeat and my blood pressure again and I had an internal to check to see if the gel had actually worked? I was now 3cm dilated!! wow something was happening!! the midwife phoned the delivery suite and now it was just a case of waiting for a midwife and a room to be free for me to go down. Unfortunatly they classed me as low priority as I was only being induced!! so could be waiting all day Mum came about 9.30. I told her that things were now happening and that I was waiting to go down to the delivery suite but that it could be a long day! It was now hitting home and I was feeling a little anxious and nervous but excited too.

We decided rather than just sitting around that we would go for a walk round to the other side of the hospital and get some food and maybe the walk may bring things on a bit! The next few hours felt like a lifetime!! we were just sitting in my room watching the clock and hoping that I would be called to go soon. I was getting really fed up!! why book someone in to be induced and have them hanging around all day!

The midwife came in a few times to check to see if I was ok. She could tell i was getting annoyed! I told her “ I am not leaving this hospital without having this baby!!” lol 2pm the midwife came back in to see me. She had a big smile on her face! “Miss Hillier, they are ready for you down in delivery suite now!”

OH MY GOD!!! This is it!!! Time to have my baby!!!
