A bus driver has secured his place in the elite class for next year's London Marathon after recording his personal best time at the 2024 event.

Arif Khan, a long-serving Oxford Bus Company driver, completed his second London Marathon in two hours, 47 minutes and 41 seconds.

The 40-year-old trained for the race while fasting during Ramadan and looking after his 10-year-old son.

He has raised more than £600 for Cancer Research UK so far, with donations still welcome.

Mr Khan said: "After 20 miles, the real marathon starts, but the body never fails, only the mind.

"If you follow your heart and discipline your mindset, any goal is achievable."

Oxford Bus Company supported Mr Khan by supplying him with a smartwatch, a nutrition plan, and a full Nike kit, including a new pair of running shoes.

He added: "Oxford Bus Company have played a pivotal role in my success and I will always be grateful for their support."

Luke Marion, Oxford Bus Company managing director, said: “Arif achieved an amazing finish time and we’re all proud of his campaign for such a great charity."

Mr Khan added: “Luke and the team have been incredibly helpful throughout my training, from providing me with my running gear, to spreading awareness throughout the company”.

This year's marathon saw more than 53,000 people from 158 nations take part, raising around £67 million for various charities.
