A high street Chinese restaurant has been hit with a terrible food hygiene rating.

The Chef Imperial in Woodstock is a longstanding eatery serving Chinese cuisine.

West Oxfordshire District Council’s Environmental Health team were left unimpressed after their visit on January 31, 2024.

Inspectors gave the eatery a one-out-of-five rating and stated that 'major improvement' was necessary.

The report started out positive for the restaurant with staff being praised for their 'good' hygienic handling of food.

This includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of the food served at the location.

It was the cleanliness and condition of both the facilities and the building where The Chef Imperial started to fall short of expectations with inspectors stating improvement was 'necessary'.

This refers to having including having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

It got even worse for the Chinese restaurant when the business’ management of food safety was deemed as needing 'major improvement'.

This part of the report regards having a system or checks in place to ensure food sold or served is safe to eat.

It also covers whether there is evidence that staff know about food safety and if the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.

The Oxford Mail has approached The Chinese Imperial for comment.
