A disabled woman is furious after drivers without Blue Badges parked in the designated spaces at a Bicester hotel car park.

Frances Union, originally from the United States, has been staying in the Premier Inn on Oxford Road since Friday, February 23, after asbestos was found in her home’s floor.

Issues arose as other drivers began parking in the disabled spaces despite them not holding a Blue Badge according to the American.

Ms Union suffers from severe osteoarthritis and uses a mobility scooter meaning she requires a Blue Badge parking space.

“Most of the staff have been lovely up to now but the problem is that I will come back on an evening after being out and there are no disabled parking spaces,” she said.

“There are eight spaces in the disabled section and I am the only one displaying my Blue Badge.

“I have complained to the hotel staff as we have had to park on the other side of the car park in a non-designated disabled parking bay.”

The situation is taking its toll on Ms Union who said she is struggling both physically and mentally with the arrangement.

“I am really upset as blood doesn’t pump around my body like an able-bodied person so I get extra cold,” she said.

“When you are sat down and relying on a mobility scooter you get very cold quickly so I need to be closer to the building.”

The 53-year-old has resorted to leaving notices on other cars to get her message across.

She said: “I try to keep an upbeat outlook but the pain levels can bring me down very quickly and this parking situation isn’t helping that.

“This is all causing me a lot of stress so last night I typed up a letter to put on the incorrectly parked cars.

“One car no longer had the letter on the windscreen when I came back the morning after so I replaced the letter and went for breakfast nearby.

“By the time I came back, the letter was missing so then I went into the hotel and the manager asked if I was Ok.

“The manager said the woman had been given special permission to park in the Blue Badge area even though she did not have one.”

The car park is a private car park but the Premier Inn allow their guests to stay in there for free.

“I feel insulted because the hotel manager has not spoken with the company who manage the car park since I had complained,” added Ms Union.

“It is unacceptable as one of the members of staff claims she is disabled but also has no Blue Badge.”

Premier Inn has been approached by the Oxford Mail for comment.
