Headington shops was once more illuminated this year by captivating Christmas lights to add to the jovial atmosphere of Oxford during the winter period. With children bustling about to reach their school buses and many coming home from work, the short days are easy to notice, and Headington has found a way to combat the darkness of winter.

First and foremost, it is essential to recognise Oxford’s already captivating architecture, and the fact that decorating the buildings merely amplifies the already prevalent Christmas spirit. Without organisations willing to benevolently put together these decorations, the concept of Christmas itself would be undermined.

Headington has made sure to be no exception, with the organisers ‘Headington Action’ ensuring to retain the festive atmosphere. Finders keepers was responsible for funding the Christmas Tree placed in Headington shops. It is particularly innovative to also place lights stringed between the multiple natural trees that grow in the area, which was done once more by Headington Action.

The lights were turned on on the third of December, and a celebration was held with mince pies (provided by coop and waitrose), sweet delights (heavenly deserts), and hot chocolate (Treatz and Starbucks). Wine and soft drinks were provided by Headington action, and perhaps the most memorable part of the evening was the music of Headington Choir. It essential due to the inevitable gloominess of winter to find a way to spread positivity, and Headington once more succeeded in doing just that.

Hopefully, the tradition will continue next year as usual!
