Electric Scooters Transforming Oxford's Urban Mobility

Over the last few years, Oxford has been wholly embracing the future of urban mobility with the introduction of electric scooters available for hire. This innovative mode of transportation, created by Voi, is transforming the way locals and tourists map the city, granting them a fast, affordable, and sustainable alternative to more generic modes of public transport.

The electric scooters are available for hire through the Voi app and have become a familiar sight on Oxford's streets. To hire one of these scooters, you simply need to download the Voi app and upload a copy of a valid full or provisional driving licence. Provisional licences can be obtained within one week with just an online application. They’re only £1 to unlock, and the 20p per minute of ride time. In addition, several types of subscription make life even easier as you have unlimited rides at a fixed rate. Voi also offers discounted rides to students, those with low income, NHS workers, and emergency service staff. This efficiency and reliability as a mode of transport is hard to come by due to the hellish traffic around Oxford at the moment, making these scooters a brilliant alternative to buses or cars.

As well as their efficiency, another key advantage of these electric scooters is their environmental impact. As the city struggles with issues such as air quality and congestion, the emission-free scooters help our city to become a cleaner and more sustainable urban environment. This new approach to transport not only reduces reliance on private cars but also encourages people of all ages to be outside more and increasingly active, contributing to a more sustainable environment.

The integration of these vehicles into the current public transport system fosters the connectivity of the city. This seamless change to a faster and more accessible mode of transport, builds a more integrated transportation network.

Despite this, as is natural with any new technology, this development has faced challenges. Safety concerns, appropriate infrastructure, and adherence to traffic regulations are careful topics that need diligence and attention to ensure the seamless integration of electric scooters in Oxford.
