A 19-year-old man died after he was struck by a tree on playing fields in Oxford.

Police were called to the King George Playing Fields near Lamarsh Road last Friday (August 18) to reports that a 19-year-old had been injured by a falling tree.

Staff from South Central Ambulance service rushed to the scene and the air ambulance also attended at around 5.45pm.

Emergency care was provided to the man but unfortunately he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman confirmed the next of kin had been informed and their “thoughts are with them at this difficult time”.

The spokesman added: “We are liaising with and assisting the Health and Safety Executive and city council to establish the circumstances around this tragic incident.”
