A lido lover has launched a fundraiser for a brand-new slide for kids to enjoy.

There is currently no slide at Chipping Norton Lido after the old one deteriorated when it wasn't being used during the pandemic and broke.

Since 2004 the open air pool has been run by a voluntary committee of trustees and a team of employees, with no public funding other than a small annual grant from the Town Council.

It means they have not been able to raise the estimated £4,000 cost of a new slide.

Now former Chippy native Luke Froude has organised a Go Fund Me appeal.

He said: "I grew up in Chippy and used the Lido frequently and really enjoyed the slide with friends as a kid later working as a lifeguard up the Lido for a couple of seasons.

"Although we moved out of Chippy we always get a group of friends and visit the Lido each year.

"We visited this year to notice the slide had gone. Staff told us it broke and at a cost of £4k the charity hasn’t been able to replace as yet."

Mr Froude said he is hoping that residents and ex-residents who have enjoyed the pool over the years could all donate whatever they can to get to the total or more and get a slide back at the pool.

The Lido, which has a 25-metre and a toddlers' heated outdoor pool plus cafe and lawn, is a treasured facility whose maintenance relies on the support of the public.

With dedicated adult sessions and other regular activities, such as Aquafit, Synchro and Sunday morning and SUP yoga, it also provides for those looking to clock up some serious lengths, boost their fitness or simply find a place to relax.

In June local celebrity, farmer and Lido supporter Jeremy Clarkson hosted the annual Auction of Promises to raise essential funds for the pool assisted by Clarkson's Farm co-star Kaleb Cooper.

Kaleb's promise of a personal tractor lesson in Jeremy’s Lamborghini tractor was the highest ticket of the night which raised £13,500 in total.

Whistler's Restaurant chef Nathan Phelps also achieved the remarkable feat of swimming 10km to raise over £2,000.

The Dog Swim is an essential fundraiser for the Lido when swimmers can bring their best furry friend to the pool.

This year it will take place on Sunday September 10, however, the tickets are already sold out.

The Dog Swim also marks the end of the 2023 Lido season.
