The future of a former care home is yet to be decided, the county council has confirmed.

It comes as eyewitnesses saw contractors inside the building of Glebe House in Kidlington who appeared to be clearing things away.

The home announced it would be closing in 2021 due to a lack of residents and this was followed by a transition period of several months.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council said: “At the moment there is no new update regarding Glebe House and the council continues to review future options.”

Councillor Ian Middleton who represents Kidlington South told residents on community site Nextdoor: “Oxfordshire County Council is still considering their options on Glebe House but I can confirm it won't be opening as a care home again as far as I know.”

Glebe House was owned by the council but is now run by The Orders of St John Care Trust (OSJCT), a not-for-profit charitable trust.

The care home had had low occupancy for several years, which dropped to 74 per cent in the two years before the pandemic and 65 per cent in February of 2021.

28 residents were at the home when it was announced that it was closing two years ago.

There were also 38 permanent employees who were affected by the closure.

Kidlington residents have suggested that the building may be put up for sale.
