The number of speeding tickets issued by Thames Valley Police in 2021 and 2022 has been revealed.

Thames Valley Police dished out 144,000 speeding tickets between March 2020 and March 2021 and this only marginally decreased between March 2021 and March 2022 when 142,000 were given out.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Bettington and Head of Roads Policing for Thames Valley Police said the large number of speeding tickets issued was a reflection of the force’s commitment to using “enforcement and education to drive down fatalities”.

He said: “Speeding is one of the fatal four road traffic offences and we know that driving above the speed limit has disastrous consequences, all too often leading to serious injury or fatalities.

“Thames Valley Police is committed to reducing serious injury and fatalities on our roads, through a combination of education of the public over the dangers of speeding, but also uses enforcement through mobile and fixed speed cameras, and officer patrols.

“Thames Valley Police has issued over 140,000 tickets a year in each of the last two years and we will continue to use enforcement and education to drive down fatalities in the Thames Valley."

Dectective Chief Inspector Mike Bettington said Thames Valley was the largest non-metropolitan force and was responsible for covering 196 miles of motorway and over 2,200 square miles across three counties, which has a population of over 2.34 million people.
