The Met Office has issued a weather warning for thunderstorms across Oxfordshire throughout today.

After a wet bank holiday weekend, more rain can be expected as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Oxfordshire.

The yellow warning is for expected heavy showers and thunderstorms which are likely to disrupt travel.

Lightning and thunder are forecast to start from 1pm and heavy rain is likely to fall between 5pm and 6pm.

The day will be humid, as humidity will be at around 83 per cent when the lightning first starts.

The Met Office’s decision to issue a yellow weather warning means that the following should be expected:

  • There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing eater and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.
  • Some flooding of a few homes and businesses possible, leading to some damage to buildings or structures.
  • Probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes.
  • Delays to train services are possible
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible.
