Many people in Oxford can sometimes be heard moaning about the traffic or how expensive it is to live here.

Amid a surge in artificial intelligence, we wanted to know what a chatbot thought were the five worst things about Oxford.

The Oxford Mail therefore turned to ChatGPT, a text-based form of artificial intelligence (AI) to see if its thoughts aligned with humans.

AI is growing increasingly popular and programs such as ChatGPT are being used every day.

Here are ChatGPT’s top five criticisms of Oxford:

High cost of living

ChatGPT noted that Oxford is one of the UK’s most expensive cities to live in.

It drew attention in particular to the cost of accommodation.

The average house price in Oxford is £470,620.

Lack of diversity

ChatGPT stated: “Oxford has been criticised for being less diverse than other cities in the UK, with a relatively small proportion of residents from ethnic minority backgrounds.”

Competitive and stressful academic environment

The chatbot told us Oxford is known for its rigorous academic programmes.

It explained that this can lead to a competitive and stressful environment for students.

Oxford University is one of the top higher education institutions in the world.

The famous eight-week terms are known to be especially intense.

Historical elitism

ChatGPT stated: “Oxford has a reputation for being elitist, due to its long history of being associated with the aristocracy and upper classes.”

Traffic congestion

According to the AI bot, heavy traffic in Oxford can make it difficult to navigate during peak hours.

Traffic in Oxford has been particularly high recently due to the closure of Botley Road at the rail bridge.

The six-month closure is to allow for a multi-million-pound redevelopment of Oxford Station.
