Match report: Under 13 Banbury vs Camp Hill close fought game ends with a tie of 4-4

This weekend, The Camp Hill under 13 team came down to Banbury from Shirley to play a game of a lifetime. After previously beating Banbury 9-1 last match, Camp Hill expected an easy win but Banbury was prepared this time.

The match started at 11 o clock and was separated into thirds. During the first third Camphill pushed the teams upwards, challenging Banbury’s defence system but Banbury retaliated by blocking strongly, making solid tackles and bringing the ball into the middle of the pitch. Both teams were fiercely competitive however, Camp hill won the third with 2-1.

Before long the second third rolled around, multiple subs were made and both teams took a second to discuss the improvements that could be made with their coaches. Later on, one of the onlookers of the match would say that, the reason why Banbury did not perform as well in this segment of the match was because ”Substitution removed some of the core players”.Not soon after the match began, Camp Hill scored another two tries and Banbury scored another as well. Flying down  the wing, Camp Hill utilised the edges of the pitch to get to the try line. Unfortunately, Banbury’s defence during this third was struggling and the tackles were more hesitant compared to the previous third. Although the match seemed to not be in favour of Banbury, the families of the players continued to support and the coches advised the team.

After the setback in the previous third Banbury was determined to score more tries. Some players were substituted back on and the team was more enthusiastic than ever. By this time, Camp Hill was losing stamina so, when Banbury stormed down the wings and worked collectively as a team, they scored two goals that were greeted with many cheers from the sidelines. The game finished at 4-4. The boys play playing for Banbury were delighted with this result as it showed just how much they had improved since last time they played Camp Hill (last time Camp Hill won 9-1).

To celebrate the result of the game, both teams came together to drink and eat lunch in the Club House.
