Casey C, who visited the store earlier this year said: “Choosing which of Ben’s Cookies to scarf down might be the hardest decision I’ve ever made.

“Since this was my first visit to Ben’s Cookies, I chose what I felt was the most unique flavour.

“I went with chocolate chip and ginger. I figured I couldn’t go wrong with a class cooke given a mature twist.

“These guys are worth their weight in pounds. The cookies arrived warm, gooey, and melt-in-your-mouth soft with the perfect firmness of outer crust.”

Another cookie-lover left a five-star review saying: “These cookies are baked to perfection with a fantastic assortment of flavours available.

“Given the boutique nature of the covered market, they can be fairly costly compared to the competition – in my opinion though, well worth the price.”

The second most highly rated bakery in oxford is Gatineau, on Banbury Road.

In her review, Nikki C said: “Lovely bread, cakes, pastries.

“Love the quiche and a good cup of coffee. All looks wonderful as soon as you walk in.

“Very friendly staff and very welcoming.”

Andrew S said: “Had a lovely breakfast, not too expensive, with patisserie as good as we’ve had in France.

“Nice cups of coffee and tea and a pleasant space to sit outside that’s dog friendly.”

Sitting just under Gatineau is Gail’s Bakery, in Summertown.

Herrison, who ate at the bakery earlier this month, said: “A lovely cup of coffee, fab cheese straws and insanely good cinnamon buns.

“Dog friendly, and the garden is a hidden treasure. Why they don’t advertise it outside, or even inside, is insane.

“A charming young man directed myself and my dog, and we enjoyed our brunch in peace.”

Hospitality managers in the city are competitive when it comes to securing a place in the top 10 on Tripadvisor, and once they get a place, they want the positive reviews to keep coming so they retain their position.
