RESIDENTS in Abingdon have just today and tomorrow left to comment on initial plans to build 900 homes north of the town.

Developer CEG, which is hoping to construct houses plus a primary school and leisure facilities on protected Green Belt land, will close its online consultation at midnight tomorrow.

The development would be built between Dunmore Road and the A34, as well as on land north of Twelve Acre Drive.

More than 1,000 residents viewed plans at consultation days on July 16 at Trinity Church, and on July 19 at Tilsley Park, and can submit comments online.

Iain Macsween, a development project manager at CEG, said: “We are thrilled with the turnout over both days and it was great to meet so many interested people.

"I’d especially like to thank everyone who came on the Tuesday evening. It was a very warm evening and people were very patient. We wanted to host this second exhibition at a location very close to the site and ended up extending the running time by an hour as people were queuing and it was important to us that everyone who came along had an opportunity to meet with the team and ask questions.

"The consultation is obviously still ‘live’ but initial reviews show that majority of comments relate to the need to analyse and improve road infrastructure to the north of Abingdon."

James Garland, spokesman for the developer, stressed that more opportunities for feedback would be given at later stages and said the consultation is very much "on-going".

He said the comment function on the project's website would not be disabled but the post-consultation report would account mainly for those sent before Saturday.

CEG is set to run more consultation sessions in September.
