A FATHER-to-be has been found guilty of attacking his girlfriend with a knife and metal pipe in a jealous rage.

Amjad Mohammed denied assaulting his 22-week pregnant partner Joanne Craft at their flat in Nursery Close, Botley, in August last year because he thought she was having an affair.

But a jury of seven men and five women at Oxford Crown Court unanimously found him guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent on Thursday.

The court heard 35-year-old Mohammed had flown into a rage and began hitting Miss Craft.

Prosecutor Patrick Dennis said Mohammed then picked up a metal pole and hit her with it.

She managed to escape to the bathroom by telling Mohammed her belly hurt, but when she returned he grabbed a kitchen knife and brandished it at her.

Mr Dennis said: "He began waving the knife around, still talking about Miss Craft having to admit she had cheated on him.

"She tried to grab the knife from him, causing a slice to her hand.

"He brought the knife over her right hand, causing what was a deep and nasty wound."

Mohammed told the jury the pair – who were both drug addicts – were accusing each other of cheating when Miss Craft became "frantic".

He said when she grabbed a knife he picked up the pole to knock it out of her hand but hit her in the arm.

Mohammed was remanded in custody to return to the same court for sentence next month.
