PEOPLE in Banbury with learning disabilities now have the chance to experience the world of work after a new second-hand bookshop opened in the town centre.

The Little Bookshop has been set up by Oxfordshire-based charity Style Acre, which support adults with learning disabilities by providing day services, work experience and job opportunities.

About 15 people a week will receive help through the shop in Butcher’s Row, which will sell a range of books including those specialising in fiction, history and cookery.

It was officially opened on Monday by BBC journalist and television presenter John Craven.

Managing the shop will be Hannah Wolstenholme, who also runs the Style Acre Banbury Resource hub in Banbury.

Mrs Wolstenholme said: “The new bookshop will give the people we support the chance to work in a shop environment and the skills needed for retail.

“There are a lot of people who might want to work but find it a difficult thing to get into.

“What they are looking for is the chance to get the feelings of confidence and self-esteem, and that is what we provide them with.

“Everyone has loved the idea so far and our service users have been very keen to check out all the donated books.”
