A sneak preview of new children's film Charlotte's Web has been organised to raise money for the Oxford Children's Hospital.

The Vue Cinema, at Oxford's Ozone Leisure and Entertainment park, is offering fundraisers a chance to catch a first glimpse of the film adaptation of the popular children's book. The cinema donated 350 tickets which will now be sold in aid of the hospital.

Hazel Scott-Towers's three-year-old son Oscar has been in and out of hospital since birth due to problems with his heart, kidneys, ears and skull. She contacted the cinema in Grenoble Road to ask if they would give the Children's Hospital some tickets to the showing.

Mrs Scott-Towers, 33, of Fullers Field, Great Milton, has been helping to raise funds for the hospital.

She said: "I am pleased to say they were happy to help. We had to take Oscar to hospital at the weekend and I was very impressed with the facilities at the new hospital."

So far, 150 tickets for the film starring the voices of Oprah Winfrey and Julia Roberts have been purchased. All funds will go towards helping the campaign to raise the final £2m of the £15m target.

Alison Barnes, communications manager at the Oxford Children's Hospital, said: "Everyone is welcome to purchase a ticket. We have offered them to staff and written to a number of schools across the county.

"We are grateful to Vue Cinemas for giving the hospital the opportunity to see the film. It is a fantastic way to help raise money for the charity and awareness of the campaign.

"It's also a privilege to be going to the preview before the release. It features the voices of some great stars and I am really looking forward to seeing it."

Charlotte's Web is a classic story of loyalty, trust and sacrifice. It is about a pig called Wilbur, the runt of the litter, who builds an unlikely friendship with a spider named Charlotte.

As it becomes clear that Wilbur's days are numbered, Charlotte uses her web spinning trickery to convince the farmer that Wilbur is worth saving.

The screening takes place on Sunday at 10.30am. Tickets are priced at £5. To book, call 01865 743444. The film goes on general release on February 9.
