SOME of Oxford’s best-known musicians are coming together for a lively night of music, organised by the Oxford Mail.

Country-rockers The Dreaming Spires, bluegrass folk-rock party band The Knights of Mentis, and Oli Steadman of folk-pop act Stornoway play the Autumn Jamboree at the Jericho Tavern on Saturday.

The night will see The Dreaming Spires – fronted by Truck and Wood festival founders Robin and Joe Bennett – launching their new EP, Darkest Before the Dawn.

Ticket-holders will be able to download a song from the EP free of charge.

The show will also see the farewell performance of the band’s drummer, Jamie Dawson, who is emigrating to California.

All three acts have an international following, playing sets everywhere from Glastonbury to Oxfordshire’s Truck, Wood, Cornbury and Wilderness festivals and London’s Somerset House and Roundhouse.

Robin Bennett said: “The line-up features some quintessentially Oxford artists, making it the perfect night to celebrate the city’s exciting music scene.

“Anyone who saw us and the other artists at Wood Festival will be able to relive those hot summer days in the cosy intimate space of the Jericho Tavern.”

Helping to organise the night is Stuart Macbeth, frontman of the Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band.

He said: “This promises to be one of the best nights of music to take place in Oxford all year. It features three amazing acts, with some delicious special guests.

“We are delighted to be hosting The Dreaming Spires for their EP launch. The band are hugely respected for their gorgeous tunes and virtuoso musicianship.

“The Knights of Mentis are the ultimate party band, and we are also thrilled to have Oli Steadman – who as part of Stornoway is used to playing venues many times bigger than the lovely, intimate Jericho Tavern.”

Between acts, DJs will be playing a selection of old-time country music and feel-good bluegrass to keep the audience on their feet and tapping their toes.
